Burl Osborne has joined the Andrews McMeel Universal board of directors, AMU announced today.
Osborne is the former publisher and editor of The Dallas Morning News, and the former chairman and director of the Associated Press .
The Kansas City-based AMU — parent company of Universal Press Syndicate — also announced that John Howard and Tom Gill have left the board after many years.
Gill, a retired Kansas City lawyer who worked as outside and in-house counsel to AMU, sat on the board from1975 to 1995. But at the request of AMU chairman John McMeel, he continued his term until the end of last year.
Howard, a former executive vice president of the National Geographic Society and longtime executive at Time Inc., served on the AMU board from1993 to 2007.
