Beginning Monday, Aug. 11, the weekday newsstand price of the Burlington (Vt.) Free Press will rise from 50 to 75 cents.
The Sunday newstand price will remain at $1.75, and the price increase will not extend to the cost of daily home delivery. “Daily home delivery subscription rates are unaffected and remain the best value,”Michael Prazma, circulation director, told the paper.
The newspaper gave rising costs associated with production and distribution of the paper as the reason for the price increase. This is the first single copy daily price change the paper has made since 1995.
The Free Press is the latest New England paper to charge 75 cents a copy, a group that includes The Boston Globe, The Boston Herald, and the nearby papers The Barre-Montpelier Times Argus, Rutland (Vt.) Herald.
