James Fogler has been appointed president and publisher of The Burlington (Vt.) Free Press.

Fogler most recently was vice president of marketing and communications for the Rochester (N.Y.) Democrat and Chronicle. Before that, he was president and publisher of the Ithaca (N.Y.) Journal from May 2004 to October 2007.

In addition, he held marketing leadership roles with Gannett media in Binghamton, N.Y.; Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; Westchester, N.Y.; and Lansdale, Pa.

“Jim has had a long, successful career with Gannett and brings important sales and marketing skills to this position,” Bob Dickey, president of Gannett’s U.S. Community Publishing, said in a statement. “His breadth of experience and leadership abilities will serve Burlington and The Free Press well.”

Fogler succeeds Brad Robertson, who was recently named president of Gannett Local.
