Bush Wants Permanent Estate Tax Phaseout

Estate-tax relief got a lift this week from none other than President Bush.

In his State of the Union address, he called for making permanent the estate-tax phaseout included in last year’s tax-cut bill. The tax is to be eliminated in 2010 — only to return full force in 2011.

Congress is entertaining several proposals that would make the cut permanent.
