‘Final Stage’ of Union Talks With Washington Post Is the ‘Hardest Stuff’

The Washington-Baltimore Newspaper Guild, which represents between 800 and 900 Washington Post employees, remains locked in contentious contract negotiations with Post ownership, though a member of its bargaining committee said that talks on a new deal are “in the final stage.”


The Guild’s last contract with the Post expired in fall 2014, and Joel Achenbach, a member of the five-person committee, said there’s still plenty of work to be done before a new agreement is hammered out. The negotiation process has played out for about seven months now, he said.
