Because his father controls the company with a voting gerrymander that would have made Joh Bjelke-Petersen blush, Lachlan Murdoch was made non-executive co-chairman of News Corp a year ago.


On Thursday he did something, buying 14.9 per cent of APN. When he brought his son back into the family fold, Rupert Murdoch spelt out the role he had planned for Lachlan: “In the elevated role, Lachlan will help us move News Corp forward as we expand our reach and invest in new technologies and markets around the world.”
