The Washington Post Company, which is valued at $4.2 billion, and has an education business, Kaplan, and television stations, sold its namesake newspaper last week to Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos . Katharine Weymouth, publisher of the newspaper, justified the sale because of pressure to cut costs and show a profit. There’s no question that the newspaper industry is in decline. But a declining market doesn’t mean no market at all. It just means something smaller, or a market that behaves differently.
