Cartoonist Loses Freelance Gig at Texas Newspaper

Another editorial cartoonist job is gone.

J.R. Lane lost his freelance position with the Denton (Texas) Record-Chronicle, news editor J.P. Trostle reported today on the site.

Lane, who began doing local and national cartoons for the Record-Chronicle in 2001, said he was laid off for budget reasons — and that it was possible he could rejoin the newspaper at some point. In the meantime, Lane hopes to continue doing national cartoons on a freelance basis. is the Web site of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists.
