Former Orange County Register staffer Mike Shelton is ceasing editorial cartoons to concentrate on animation, according to JohnSeilerBlogs.com.

Shelton and his animation partner, Jocelyne Leger, were let go by the Register last fall. Shelton, who had been with the paper for 23 years, continued to do cartoons for King Features Syndicate.

Seiler, a former colleague of Shelton’s at the Register, reported that the cartoonist moved from California back to his native Texas earlier this year.

Shelton (part of an E&P August 2006 story on cartoonists who do animation and blogs) could not be reached for comment.

Seiler’s complete blog post, which also discusses animation-ownership issues Shelton and Leger had with the Register, can be seen here.
