CAUTHORN TO LEAD CHRONICLE’S DIGITAL PUBLISHING EFFORTS

StarNet Creator Moves West





The San Francisco Chronicle has appointed Robert S. Cauthorn to vice president of digital newspaper operations at the Hearst-owned newspaper.


Cauthorn will be responsible for coordinating all digital media activities as well as developing new sites, brands, and technologies.


Cauthorn previously was director of new technology at the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson. While at the Daily Star, he created StarNet which has received two Digital Edge awards from the Newspaper Association of America.


On hiring Cauthorn, Steven B. Falk, president of the San Francisco Chronicle, said, “We get the insights, abilities and proven track record of a radical thinker in digital news. At the same time, we have someone who can develop synergies between the exceptional Web operations built by John Coate at SFGate.com and other Bay area Web sites.”


Cauthorn also received the Newspaper Association of America’s New Media Pioneer Award in 1998.
