Caribbean Net News Publisher Desmond Seales died July 3, his publication’s Website reported from George Town, Cayman Islands. He was 71.

Seales was thought to be improving after undergoing emergency heart surgery in Miami on June 24, following several days of what were described as flu-like symptoms.

Involved in Cayman Islands media for 40 years, beginning with Nor’wester magazine in the 1970s, Seales helped bring broadcast television to Grand Cayman.

Only a month earlier, the printed weekly Cayman Net News, launched on the Web, celebrated its 10th anniversary with a new look: a stitiched short tab with a glossy cover to resemble a magazine (E&P Online, June 3).

“It’s easier for readers to handle, plus advertisers like the idea that their ads cannot be lost at the bottom of the news page,” Seales said in spring. He added that he planned to acquire a press and relocate printing from Miami.
