The large-circulation Munich-based Suddeutsche Zeitung published last week what it calls an augmented-reality edition of its weekly magazine.
The result of work with German technology firm metaio is more an interaction of the print medium with wireless technology. It isn’t the first magazine to dabble in the area, but it is believed to be the first newspaper publisher to do so, at least in Germany.
Readers with iPhones and Android-based phones who download the junaio app to their devices can use them to activate enhancements lying within the cover and certain articles.
A demo changes the cover’s still image into a brief video, turns a photo series into a comics-style interview, reveals a crossword puzzle’s answers and more.
