CENTRAL DEAL TO BOOST USA WEEKEND CIRCULATION

Sunday Magazine Also Picks Up Sun-Sentinel

Gannett Co. Inc.’s USA Weekend Sunday magazine announced it will boost
its weekly circulation by 1.4 million for a total of 22.4 million, mainly
as a result of Gannett’s $2.6 billion purchase of Central Newspapers Inc.



The Arizona Republic; Indianapolis Star; Muncie, Ind., Star Press; Vincennes
(Ind.) Sun-Commercial; and Alexandria (La.) Daily Town Talk, all formerly
owned by Central, will drop Parade magazine and pick up rival USA Weekend
beginning Oct. 15, according to Gannett executives.



In addition, USA Weekend will pick up Tribune Co.’s Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Sun-Sentinel, which is closing its own Sunday magazine.



With these additions, USA Weekend will be carried by a total of 570 papers.
As of July, Parade was carried by 347 papers with a total weekly circulation
of 37 million.
