The announcement was made Friday in a story on the newspaper’s front page.

Advertising director and general manager Lisa Ursini will succeed Karius as publisher.

The 71-year-old Karius began his career in 1962 as a reporter for the Daily Tribune in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., and later served as publisher of newspapers in South Dakota and Vermont before taking over the Daily Globe’s operations in 2001.

Karius says daily newspapers touch people’s lives, and he “always wanted to be part of the towns we served and do what I could to make them better.”

Ursini served as the Daily Globe’s classified advertising supervisor before becoming advertising director
