A large collection of Mike Royko’s papers and memorabilia has been donated to the Newberry Library in Chicago.
The donation was made by Judy Royko, widow of the famous Chicago newspaperman.
Included in the collection is material — dating from 1956 to 1997 — such as column clippings, reader mail, a reporter’s notebook, research files, a rolodex of contacts, and handwritten corrections to a draft of “Boss,” Royko’s 1971 best-selling biography of Mayor Richard J. Daley. Also included are items from his personal life, including letters, cigarettes, and statistics he kept from his softball-playing days.
Royko’s column was syndicated by Tribune Media Services.
