‘Chicago Sun-Times’ Launching Circ-Building Promo

A circulation-building promotion — which have been absent from the Chicago newspaper competition for more than a decade — is coming back to the Chicago Sun-Times.

On Wednesday, April 9, the tabloid launches a six-week game called “Scratch2Win” that offers weekly cash prizes ranging from $100 to $25,000.

Game cards will be inserted in Wednesday editions through May 20. The game card will have eight chances to win, including two chances for the Sunday paper. Winning numbers will be published daily in the newspaper and its online site.

“With all of the bad economic news out there, we believe Chicagoans can use a little fun — not to mention a little extra cash,” Hunt Kingsbury, Sun-Times News Group vice president of marketing said in the announcement.

The game includes a chance to win prizes online with a bonus online code that pays out $500.

For the first three Wednesdays of the game, Sun-Times employees will hand out game cards in downtown Chicago.

In addition to house ads, the Sun-Times is promoting the game on local radio and TV, and in mass transit ads.
