John Barron is the new editor of the Chicago Sun-Times, replacing Michael Cooke, who recently departed to become editor of New York’s Daily News.
Publisher John Cruickshank announced the appointment at a speech Thursday morning to the Executives Club of Chicago, according to a report in Crain’s Chicago Business.
Barron’s managing editor will be Don Hayner, the former managing editor/news.
“We’ve got virtually the same guys running things,” Barron said, according to Crain’s. “We’re very happy with the way things are going.”
Barron joined the Sun-Times in 1995.
