Chicago Sun-Times sportswriter Lacy J. Banks has kept readers informed of his perilous health situation in his blog and in the pages of the newspapers since the spring of 2008 when he was diagnosed with brain cancer and with prostate cancer.
Those cancer diagnosises came on top of tests that showed he had congestive heart failure – and disqualified Banks for a heart transplant.
But in a column in Monday’s Sun-Times, Banks says he has been moved to “very high” up on the Mayo Clinic’s transplant list.
His brain tumor was determined to be benign and his prostate cancer responded to treatment with radioactive seeds and was deemed sufficiently in remission to get the sportswriter on the transplant list.
“Soon, you may very well see the revolutionary, new, improved Lacy J. Banks,” the 67-year-old sportswriter said. Read the entire column here.
