San Luis Obispo Council Reacts To Owner’s Views
The City Council of San Luis Obispo, Calif., has suspended advertising in the
Gazette newspapers until the owners explain their prohibition on any material
about abortion or homosexuality, reports The Tribune newspaper.
Three council members also announced they would not longer write articles or
columns for the San Luis Obispo Gazette.
The controversy began several weeks ago when the Gazette newspapers’ owner,
David Weyrich, said his weekly publications would not run calendar listings or
stories that didn’t meet his family values mandate. At least a dozen staffers
resigned in protest.
