‘Clarion-Ledger’ Photographer Dies at 53


J.D. Schwalm, a photographer at The Clarion-Ledger newspaper of Jackson for 24 years, has died after a 15-month battle with cancer. He was 53.

Funeral services were pending. Schwalm died Thursday at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland.

Schwalm earned a journalism degree in 1977 from Indiana University in Bloomington. He also studied humanities at Harlaxton College in Grantham, Lincolnshire, England in the fall of 1975. Before coming to The Clarion-Ledger, Schwalm worked at The Register-Mail in Galesburg, Ill., and The Messenger-Inquirer in Owensboro, Ky.

Survivors include his wife, Amy, and sons, Luke and Adam.
