Heartland Communications bought two West Virginia newspapers — the Logan Banner and Coal Valley News in Madison — from Community Newspapers Holdings Inc. (CNHI).
?It?s always a difficult decision to sell newspapers in the communities we serve,? said Donna Barrett, president and CEO of CNHI, in a statement. ?While no longer strategic to CNHI, we are fortunate these papers fit nicely with Heartland?s plans.?
Upon the completion of the sale, CNHI based in Birmingham, Ala., will own 89 daily newspapers and 49 non-dailies. Heartland Communications in Old Saybrook, Conn., operates 31 paid daily and weekly papers.
