News Outlet Teams With Newspaper Giant

CNN Interactive launched CNN.CO.JP yesterday, the company’s first Asian-language news site.
It will be produced by staff in Tokyo and Atlanta, with content contributed by Asahi.com,
the Web site of Asahi Shimbun, the second largest newspaper in the world, according to the
Editor & Publisher International Yearbook.

CNN Interactive Editor in Chief Scott Woelfel points out that there are 22 million online
users in Japan, a number projected to double by 2003.

CNN will swap content with Asahi.com on a regular basis. The new site will feature full-length Japanese-language articles from Time magazine, a sister news outlet to CNN. The site is being
sponsored by @nifty, the largest Internet service provider in Japan.

CNN.CO.JP is CNN Interactive’s seventh non-English language site. The others are CNNenEspanol.com, CNNemPortugues.com, CNNItalia.it, Svenska CNN (cnn.passagen.se), CNN Denmark (cnn.dk), and
CNNNorge (cnn.vg.no).
