Ann Imse envisioned Colorado Public News as a way to fill the reporting gap left by the disappearance of newspapers like the Rocky Mountain News, where she once worked. The problem was trying to get someone to pay for it — and a year later, Imse, CPN’s editor, succeeded, landing a $386,000, three-year grant from the Colorado Trust to do healthcare coverage.
How? By essentially creating a network from scratch.
