Column Parody Becomes Song

By: Dave Astor

Self-syndicated columnist Rick Horowitz says his home city of Milwaukee is now “just north of Nashville.”

After Horowitz wrote a parody of the “Sixteen Tons” country classic, the political humorist was approached by a Nashville producer about turning the column into actual recorded music.

“My [parody] dealt with the 16 words, on Iraq and nuclear weapons, that landed President Bush in so much hot water after last year’s State of the Union address,” said Horowitz (http://www.yesrick.com).

This column was turned into two versions of a song — one pop and one traditional — called “Another Day Older and Another Excuse.” Both were recorded by Billy Davis, backed by Nashville session musicians.
