Columnist Discusses Why That ‘New Yorker’ Cover Didn’t Work

Much has been written about what was wrong with the controversial New Yorker cover picturing the Obamas as terrorists/militants. But Tribune Media Services columnist Bob Koehler might have put his finger on the problem in his just-released July 24 piece.

He wrote: “Satire normally creates acute discomfort for those it is targeting, but this cover managed to wound only those who had already been wounded.”
