A Web telethon for Hurricane Katrina relief has generated more than $28,000 in pledges so far, according to its organizer, Blank Label Comics.

Pledge values were collected from visitors to the telethon site ( before these visitors proceeded to the American Red Cross site to make their donations directly.

Since the telethon site launched last week, it has displayed a frequently changing lineup of comics by more than 300 cartoonists. The site has received 109,000 visits, 1.85 million page views, and 8 million hits.

The telethon (E&P Online, Sept. 1) is continuing this week. And, in a few days, a 100-page “Blank Label Comics Webcomic Telethon Book” will be put on sale — with all proceeds going to the Red Cross.

Blank Label Comics is a co-op of independent cartoonists.
