A Web telethon for Hurricane Katrina relief has generated more than $28,000 in pledges so far, according to its organizer, Blank Label Comics.

Pledge values were collected from visitors to the telethon site (www.webcomictelethon.com) before these visitors proceeded to the American Red Cross site to make their donations directly.

Since the telethon site launched last week, it has displayed a frequently changing lineup of comics by more than 300 cartoonists. The site has received 109,000 visits, 1.85 million page views, and 8 million hits.

The telethon (E&P Online, Sept. 1) is continuing this week. And, in a few days, a 100-page “Blank Label Comics Webcomic Telethon Book” will be put on sale — with all proceeds going to the Red Cross.

Blank Label Comics is a co-op of independent cartoonists.
