Community Newspapers Change Hands In Texas

By:

Texas has been the setting of a busy community newspaper-buying market.

In the Houston area, Gilbert and Mei-Ing Hoffman, owners of the Highlands Star and Crosby Courier, added three more local community papers to their stable: the Northeast News, North Forest News, and Frugal Frog Shopper, for undisclosed terms.

Rickenbacher Media represented the seller, Donna Mauldin, whose late husband, Vic Mauldin, had been the papers’ longtime publisher.

Near Dallas, Hartman Newspapers Inc. bought the Rockwall County News to complement two nearby dailies it already owns.

Rickenbacher Media represented the sellers, L&B Publishers Inc. Terms of the deal were undisclosed.

Rickenbacher also represented Terry Lantrip, who sold the Lake Cities Sun and Argyle Sun in the Dallas-Denton area to Mark Henry and Sean French, who also own papers in the Zapata and Corpus Christi areas. Terms were not disclosed.

Farther south, American Consolidated Media of Dallas bought the weekly Alvarado Post from Wade Parker and Billy Tuma. Associated Texas Newspapers arranged the sale.
