The Comprint Printing subsidiary of Post Newsweek, commercial printer and publisher of community weeklies in Maryland, has purchased the QuadTech Register Guidance System with MultiCam and QuadTech Data Central, integrated through the QuadTech ICON platform, for its new Mitsubishi Diamondstar doublewide press.
ICON integrates controls of all ancillaries with the press, allowing quicker production of saleable copies and freeing press operators to take on other tasks. Looking to such integration as one way the new equipment will help reduce waste, Comprint Printing Director John Payne said in a statement, “Combined with the technology of the Register Guidance System with MultiCam, we are certain that the savings made will mean a rapid return on investment.”
The MultiCam’s 640×480-pixel sensor can find marks up to 30 times a second, reducing makeready time and waste, especially at maximum register upset, such as during a web splice.
Payne explained that with registration maintained throughout a press run, “the system can be set up to predict the position of register marks during acceleration and slow down, reducing the number of waste copies on hot and cold press start-ups.” Data Central’s Performance Reporting Module verifies the waste savings, collecting color, color-registration and cutoff data from ICON and generating reports that quantify performance parameters.
