Copley News Service — like the King Features Weekly Service (KFWS) — is picking up newspapers that subscribed to the package syndicated by DBR Media, which ceased operations last week.
While he didn’t have exact figures, Copley Manager of Sales and Marketing Tim Cien said several former DBR clients have so far signed on for the syndicate’s “Weekly News and Features Package.”
“A few of them mentioned that they had been with DBR,” reported Cien, who was contacted by E&P.
KFWS previously told E&P yesterday that it had gained 17 former DBR clients since last week.
Copley’s weekly package began around three years ago, and now has nearly 100 subscribers. The package contains more that 50 features — including opinion columns by commentators such as Jack Kemp and Phyllis Schlafly, feature columns, puzzles, comics, and editorial cartoons by past Pulitzer Prize finalists Mike Thompson and Marshall Ramsey; 2008 Herblock Prize winner John Sherffius; and Bruce Beattie, Chris Britt, Gary Markstein, and Scott Stantis.
Features in the weekly package are also available for sale outside the weekly package to dailies and other customers.
Cien said Copley has a “Monthly News and Features Package,” too, that was launched several months ago.
