Cox Ohio Publishing, parent company of the Dayton Daily News and three other southwestern Ohio dailies, has purchased three violet laser-based :Advantage CLS systems, Agfa Graphics announced Monday at the Nexpo equipment show.
Joe McKinnon, Cox Ohio’s vice president of operations, said the company went with :Advantage because of its automation capabilities. “The most significant advantage with Agfa’s system is the number of plates that we can load into the machine and the large quantities of multiple sizes,” he said. “We can now load 1,200 plates of one size or 400 each of three other sizes. Everything can be online at once and we can change from one plate to another without manual intervention. This allows us to be very efficient because it gives us redundancy between the machines.”
Agfa says :Advantage CLS, a cassette model, has speeds as high as 220 plates per hour.
