The Committee to Protect Journalists said Monday it was “deeply concerned” over reports that an Iraqi newspaper editor is missing.

Jamal al-Zubaidi, 56, an economic affairs editor for the Baghdad-based dailies As-Saffir and Al-Dustour, was last seen in central Baghdad on Saturday, his son Riyah told the New York-based press freedom group.

The son said he checked with police and hospitals. He also said he was not aware of any threats against his father.

The group says at least 43 journalists have been abducted in Iraq since 2004. The kidnappings have been blamed on political feuds and gangs seeking ransom.
