Craigslist to Charge for Help-Wanted Ads in 4 Cities

By: E&P Staff

In order to control the quality of listings, Craigslist will start charging $25 for recruitment ads in Washington D.C., San Diego, Boston, and Seattle on Oct. 22.

The four markets will join New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, which already require employers to pay for help-wanted ads.

Classified Intelligence reported that Craigslist said on its discussion forum, “Since a $25 fee was initiated in August of 2004, the absolute number of NYC and LA job ads dropped significantly, but the remaining jobs are of much higher quality, and these have more than doubled in the year since the fee took effect.”
