An Ontario Provincial Police cruiser rear-ended a Windsor Star delivery van early yesterday, sending both vehicles into a ditch on the side of the road, the Star reports.

The impact rolled the van, according to its driver, who has delivered the paper under contract for 12 years. No injuries were reported.

“It’s a write-off,” driver Steve Hatt told his paper. “The floor in the back is broken in half. The box is totally gone. … The cab roof is all dented.”

An police spokeswoman said the cruiser also was totaled and that the cause of the crash is being investigated.

The van was carrying about 4,000 copes of the Star, causing delivery delays of up to three hours for some subscribers, according to a report by Dalson Chen.

Hatt told Chen that police would not allow newspapers to be removed from the scene. He returned to the Star plant, borrowed a truck to completed his route.
