The Curry County Reporter in Gold Beach, Ore., has been sold to Chuthers, Inc. owned by Joel S. Summer and his wife, Rebecca. Joel Summer will be the publication’s new publisher. Current co-publishers Jim and Molly Walker will remain on staff for some time assisting the new owner in the transition.

Terms of the deal, brokered by W.B. Grimes & Co., were not disclosed.

The Curry County Reporter, founded in 1914, has about 2,800 paid circulation and is the only weekly in Oregon audited by ABC.

The purchase of the newspaper ends a family ownership that spans a period of nearly 50 years. Bob and Betty Van Leer bought the Curry County Reporter in 1956. They retired in July 1997, naming their daughter and her husband, Molly and Jim, as publishers.
