Joni L. Silverstein, previously vice president of market development at The News Journal in Wilmington, Del., took her new leadership position Thursday, the paper reported. Both newspapers are owned by Gannett Co. Inc.
Silverstein will also oversee the company’s other local publications, which include the Worcester County Times, the Eastern Shore News, the Chincoteague Beacon, the Ocean Pines Independent, the Delaware Coast Press in Rehoboth Beach, the Delaware Wave in Bethany Beach, the Somerset Herald in Princess Anne and the Beachcomber newspapers in Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. She will also have oversight of DelmarvaNow.com, the news group’s Web site.
Between 1991 and 1994, Silverstein was publisher and group executive of Independent Newspapers Inc., a nearby newspaper group that included The Advertiser, the Crisfield Times, and The Daily Banner of Cambridge, Md.
