The editorial board at The Dallas Morning News launched DMN daily, a Web log (or blog) Sunday at www.dallasnews.com/opinion/blog.
Editorial board members will post blog entries on a wide variety of topics. Recent posts have remarked on post-war Iraq, the death of British weapons expert David Kelley, Congressional redistricting, and the availability of black truffles at a local food store. The Morning News editorial page bloggers will link to other Web sites where appropriate.
In an effort to expose readers to the thought processes of the editorial board, board members will sometimes respond to each other in the blog — providing running commentary and debates.
The newspaper hopes the new blog will provide a stronger connection to readers.
“One of the neat things about DMN Daily is that it demystifies the process,” said Ruben Navarrette, a member of the editorial board. “It invites readers to peek behind the curtain and get a glimpse into how editorial writers form their opinions, interact with one another, and reconcile different points of views. What people read on an editorial page, or in a column, is the finished product. This lets you know how we got there. The goal is to better engage readers, and if the way to do that is give them more insights and information about who wrote what, then great.”
