Deceased ‘Harrison (Ark.) Daily Times’ Pub Left Money for Scholarships

J.E. Dunlap Jr., the former Harrison (Ark.) Daily Times publisher who passed away this summer, bequeathed $35,000 to the Arkansas Newspaper Foundation, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported today. He reportedly also bequeathed similar amounts to the George Douthit Scholarship for college journalism students and the Ernie Deane Scholarship at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

The donation to the Arkansas Newspaper Association will go towards scholarships for journalism students at public schools in Arkansas, the foundation?s internship program, and providing educational opportunities for professional journalists, said the Democrat-Gazette.

Dunlap passed away at the age of 83 from complications from a fall in June, 2006.
