Declines In Newsprint Usage Narrow

Year-over-year declines in newsprint usage continued to narrow in March, reflecting the gradual improvement in the advertising market. U.S. dailies used 703,000 metric tons in March, down 3.3% from the same period a year ago, while preliminary figures for April showed consumption declining 3.6% to 718,000 metric tons, according to the Newspaper Association of America.

Stocks fell 21.6% in March to 872,000 metric tons, a 37 days’ supply, while preliminary figures for April showed stocks down 20.8% to 867,000 metric tons, a 36 days’ supply.
