The Delmarva Group, a Gannett Co. subsidiary headquartered in Salisbury, Md., began printing The Daily Times and nine affiliated publications on a new press this week.
The Goss Urbanite, refurbished by Pressline Services at its Texas facility, replaces a 30-year-old Goss Cosmo offset press.
Housed in a new production facility in Salisbury’s Northwood Industrial Park, the 17-unit Urbanite is configured for color work and capable of speeds of up to 23,000 copies per hour.
Supervised by Gannett production veteran Hal Koontz, the project involved $6.5 million in capital improvements at the new leased facility, where most of the investment went into the purchase and installation of printing equipment, new mailroom equipment and platesetting systems.
The group’s editorial, circulation and advertising departments will move to the new facility in May or June. The Daily Times building in downtown Salisbury is up for sale for $1.95 million.
