Bill Gaspard, formerly the news design director at the Los Angeles Times, has been named deputy managing editor of the Las Vegas Sun, where he will oversee design, graphics, and photography. The Los Angeles Times has promoted Michael Whitley to news design director to take Gaspard’s place.
Both moves were reported on the NewsDesigner.com blog.
Gaspard had been consulting for the Sun, which he has described last September as “a very different kind of read – a paper within a paper ? free from covering most breaking news developments,” since leaving the Times in September 2005.
NewsDesigner also reports that Bryan Volk, formerly a designer at The Charlotte Observer and the LA Times before working for the Walt Disney Co., is the new assistant design director at the Sun.
