With its smart phone app launched, The Detroit News has turned its attention to its e-Edition, where subscribers will see improvements beginning next week.
The updated digital replica of the printed edition — started when the paper curtailed home delivery last year — “will blend all the elements of the newspaper with online news updates, access to editors’ picks and multimedia stories,” News Finance Editor Brian J. O’Connor reported. “Users also will be able to interact with social networks, e-mail stories or post comments.”
A new “gateway” page serves as a link to each section of the newspaper, as well as to breaking news and multimedia content at www.detnews.com. “It completes a dream of having all the work from our newsroom accessible to Michigan readers from one screen,” Detroit News Editor and Publisher Jonathan Wolman is quoted saying.
Meanwhile, GPS enables the News‘ new mobile app, sponsored by Southeast Michigan Ford Dealers, to provides localized weather and traffic updates based on the user’s location.
