Detroit Newspapers Centralize Production

By: Mark Fitzgerald

Detroit Newspapers will centralize all production of the jointly operated Detroit Free Press and Detroit News in its Sterling Heights, Mich., plant with a $170-million expansion that includes the purchase of six Geoman 75 offset presses from MAN Roland Inc.

Denver-based McClier/designAlliance and Detroit-area architects Ghafari Associates will provide architectural and engineering services for the 190,000-square-foot expansion.

When the project is complete in late 2005, the papers will close and sell the Riverfront Plant built near downtown Detroit by the Free Press in 1979.
