Dix Buys Dealership to Consolidate Record Publishing Co. Functions

By: E&P Staff

Dix Communications, headquartered in Wooster, Ohio, bought a former Mazda dealership in Kent, Ohio, for conversion to use as a headquarters that will consolidate three locations’ marketing efforts within the group’s Record Publishing Co., which produces the Record-Courier, Revenna, and its affiliate weeklies in Summit and Portage counties

The 24,852-square-foot structure was sold the family-owned newspaper group on Aug. 4 for $840,000.

After extensive renovation, the facility also will house the corporation’s Web division and IT operations, along with Record Publishing editorial and production staffs.

Dix Communications President Gordon Charles Dix attributed the site’s selection to Kent’s access to nearby urban areas, Kent State University’s graduates seeking jobs in media, easy access to Kent’s west side for Record Publishing customers in both Portage and Summit counties, and greater cooperation between the city and the university in focusing on Kent’s downtown renewal and economic development.
