Members of the Independent Association of Publishers’ Employees, the largest union at Dow Jones & Co., overwhelmingly rejected a tentative labor agreement.

The agreement, with a rejection rate of more than 83 percent, would have run through January 2006, according to Dow Jones Newswires. The old accord expired in April.

The union represents about 1,600 staffers who work in news, ad sales and information technology.

Both union leaders and company executives said they want to continue negotiations as soon as possible.
