Dr. Marty Becker, the veterinary contributor to ABC-TV’s “Good Morning America,” will join “Pet Connection” creator Gina Spadafori as columnist and editor for the weekly pet-care feature distributed by Universal Press Syndicate.

Becker, who’s already contributing to the “Pet Connection” Web site, starts working on the column Jan. 1.

New “Pet Connection” contributors will also include Susan and Dr. Rolan Tripp, who’ll write “On Good Behavior,” a series of tips to make living with a pet easier; and Christie Keith, a long-time pet-care writer with a special interest in pet health and nutrition.

Becker previously wrote a pet-care and pet-relationship column for McClatchy-Tribune Information Services (formerly Knight-Ridder/Tribune InformationServices). He’s the host of “The Pet Doctor With Marty Becker,” which has been airing on PBS stations around the country since early December. And Becker, in association with the American Animal Hospital Association, hosts a nationally syndicated program called “Top Vets Talk Pets” on the Health Radio Network.

He and Spadafori collaborated on two bestselling books about pets: “Do Cats Always Land on Their Feet?” and “Why Do Dogs Drink Out of the Toilet?” Becker has also written six pet books in the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” series, as well as “Fitness Unleashed: A Dog and Owner’s Guide To Losing Weight and Gaining Health Together!”

In addition, Becker is an adjunct professor at the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine and the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Spadafori has won the Dog Writers Association’s Maxwell Medallion for the best newspaper column, and a certificate of excellence from the Cat Writers Association. She has written such books as “Dogs For Dummies,” “Cats For Dummies,” and “Birds For Dummies.”
