The Cuyahoga Falls (Ohio) News-Press reported June 27 that a local 20-year-old man has pled guilty to charges related to an accident that injured a newspaper carrier in February.

John C. Lees is to be sentenced July 19 for aggravated vehicular assault, a felony, and Operating a Vehicle under Influence, a misdemeanor, according to a spokesperson with the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office.

Lees struck the Akron carrier at 4 a.m. Feb. 7, while the victim was standing in the street removing newspapers from the back seat of his wife’s legally parked SUV on the other side of the road.

The carrier suffered fractures in his cervical vertebrae and legs.

Lees, who was at the scene when police arrived, was given a breath test that showed a blood alcohol content twice the state’s legal limit, according to the police report.
