Editor & Publisher has been named a finalist in five categories in the annual Jesse H. Neal Awards competition, the top prizes in the business and trade press. Only one other magazine earned more.

The awards, now in their 52nd year, are sponsored by American Business Media, and will be announced this year on March 23 at a luncheon at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York.

Three finalists were named in each of 10 categories. E&P is a finalist for staff-written editorials, news (continuing coverage of Iraq), best single issue (December 2004), and has two finalists for best series of articles: circulation challenges (four features written by Jennifer Saba) and journalists in Iraq (by Allan Wolper, Barbara Bedway, and two features by Joe Strupp).

E&P, published by VNU Inc., has won seven Neal Awards in the past three years. Only one other magazine has won more in that period.

Other magazines earning finalists slots included Architectural Record, Medical Economics, Aviation Week, Library Journal, PC World, CSO, Advertising Age, and IEEE Spectrum.

Other VNU publications earning Neal nods this year are BrandWeek, with two, plus one each for AdWeek, Marketing y Medios, BackStage, and National Jeweler.
