Media General Interactive Names Harris VP
Media General’s Interactive Media Division has named Phil Harris as vice president, a new position for the division.
Starting Jan. 21, Harris will be in charge of the online operations of Media General’s newspapers and TV stations.
Harris comes to the Richmond, Va.-based Media General from Cincinnati’s E.W. Scripps Co., where he was director of Internet business development for newspapers. He joined Scripps in 1995 as director of interactive media for the Naples (Fla.) Daily News.
In a statement, Neal Fondren, president of Media General’s interactive group, said Harris “has extensive experience in integrating interactive solutions that produce incremental revenue for traditional media.”
NY Times Co. Names Gaultney Publisher In Ocala
The New York Times Co. recently named Bruce Gaultney, general manager of the Ocala (Fla.) Star-Banner, as publisher of the paper. Gaultney, 45, will succeed Charles J. “Chip” Stout, who retires March 22.
Gaultney joined the Star-Banner as executive editor in 1994, and has been with The New York Times Regional Newspaper Group since 1983.
ScreamingMedia Names Loevner CEO
New York-based ScreamingMedia Inc., the online content syndicator, recently named Kirk M. Loevner president and CEO. The previous CEO, Kevin Clark, remains as chairman of the board.
Loevner, 44, has over 20 years of management experience in technology companies such as Apple Computer and Silicon Graphics. He founded PublishOne Inc., a digital rights management startup that was acquired by InterTrust Technologies last year.
