E.W. Scripps’ 3Q Revenue Rose in Campaign Season

Media conglomerate E.W. Scripps Co. said Tuesday that money from political advertisers offset its declining newspaper business somewhat and reversed a year-earlier third-quarter loss.

The company’s earnings totaled $6.2 million, or 10 cents per share, compared with a loss of $3.3 million, or 6 cents per share, in the same period a year ago.

Revenue grew 8.6 percent to $183.6 million from $169.1 million. Revenue from its newspaper segment declined 3.8 percent to $100.4 million, while television revenue climbed 31 percent to $78.5 million.
