E.W. Scripps reported that its total newspaper revenue for the month of May was up 2.8% to $63.9 million compared with the same period last year. Newspaper advertising revenue grew 3.8% to $51.4 million.
By category, local was up 2.7% to $14.8 million. National increased 3.7% to $3.6 million. Classified grew 1.1% to $20.3 million.
The company’s share of profits from its four joint newspaper operations, before editorial costs, was $7.3 million compared with $7.5 million in May 2004.
